New Zealand music shines bright in the spotlight

Time for Kiwi music to step into the spotlight again as nominations for the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards were announced in Auckland last night - once again highlighting the absolute wealth of talent our country is producing.

Lorde and opera group Sol3 Mio lead the way with five nominations each with Ladi6 and David Dallas also in the running for this year's awards with four nominations each.

Across various categories, The Naked And Famous, brother and sister duo Broods, Tiny Ruins and Stan Walker all claimed three nominations each with Liam Finn gaining two finalist spots along with roots artists House of Shem and Tama Waipara.

Lorde's nominations include best album, best single, best female solo artist, best pop album and people's choice.

Lorde's producer Joel Little took out two Tui awards for best engineer and best producer for his work on Pure Heroine.

The winner of this year's Legacy Award was also announced at the Award nominations event in Auckland last nite seeing winning band Supergroove inducted into the NZ Music Hall of Fame.

Regarded as the country's most prestigious music awards, the official ceremony will be held at Vector Arena on November 20.
