Happy New Year from the Penny Lane crew
2012 was an exciting year for us. At a time when other music retailers are closing Penny Lane ROCKETED ahead, extending our Sydenham flagship store into two extra stores at Eastgate Shopping Centre and Riccarton Road. This move underlines not only the incredible support and growing demand we've had from our customers, but also our own commitment to Christchurch and New Zealand to provide the biggest and best selection of new and pre-owned records, cds and dvds in the country - backed up by great service from people who truly know and love music, movies and tv as much as you do. Here's to another great year ahead!
Looks like we've got a good old-fashioned hot Kiwi summer on our hands - backed up with some good old fashioned Hot Kiwi music. New Zealand comes alive over summer with music festivals featuring artists and bands touring from one end of the country to the other - highlighting the exciting and incredible depth of talent in our music industry. Kiwi music is rocketing out Penny Lane's doors right now, lead by Kora - 'Light Years'. Since their formation in 2002, Whakatane’s four Kora brothers have rarely been off the NZ musical radar. Light Years is their second album after the 35,000-and-counting sales of their self-titled debut album and is looking like continuing their stellar rise.
Delaney Davidson's 'Bad Luck Man' was a homegrown highlight of 2011 as well as Marlon Williams band The Unfaithful Ways debut of 'Americana'. Now the pair have combined to create 'Sad But True', the debut full-lengther from the new Lyttelton Records - which is garnering high praise all over, as well as fast becoming one of Penny Lanes hottest selling albums right now. Take a look at their Video of the Month "Bloodletter", featured on our website. We have the 'Sad But True' CD in stock now and are waiting on the imminent arrival of the first pressing of the album in vinyl.
Check out some other 'rocketing' Kiwi albums selling really well - Six60 'Six60', The Black Seeds 'Dust and Dirt' (Deluxe Edition), Minuit 'Last Night You Saw This Band'
