We've got two great instore appearances happening this week at our Penny Lane Riccarton store at 104 Riccarton Road. First up, this Thursday from 3.30pm Powertool Records is proud to present ‘Bulletholes 4: Exploring the Unknown’ - the New Zealand roadshow.
An exciting mixed bag of Powertool Records’ artists are currently touring the country promoting the album release and this Thursday Come Down Kid, Nick Raven and Brother Love will be performing live instore at Penny Lane. Groundbreaking compilation ‘Here Come the Bulletholes’ came out in 2003, and while it wasn’t the first release on Powertool Records, it was undoubtedly the launching pad for what has become one of NZ’s finest underground indie labels. Hailed as “a great slice of the Auckland music scene” (The Press), it captured an exciting time and some great songwriting, with tracks by local heroes Mary, Cabbage Bomber, the Demi Whores, Voom and Rainy Days to name but a few. Powertool Records has now reached number 4 in the critically acclaimed series, and 11 years on, with ‘Bulletholes 4: Exploring the Unknown’, the horizons have expanded considerably. In addition to an abundance of local tracks, the album showcases some of the international artists who have joined the Powertool Records family. Attics and Cellars (Jason Zumpano from Zumpano, Destroyer, Sparrow…), Rough Church, The Black Watch and Azalia Snail hail from the ever-expanding USA Powertool roster. New Zealand goodness can be heard from legends such as Sandra Bell, Brother Love, Gold Medal Famous, Vorn, A. J. Sharma and One Man Bannister (ex-Sneaky Feelings’ Matthew Bannister) - plus a whole toolbox more from the length and breadth of the country.
Performing instore this Saturday 20th October from 2pm at Penny Lane Riccarton is ANNA WHITAKER and her jazz group who are in Christchurch to appear at the International Big Band Festival. Anna will be promoting her first full big band studio album in partnership with Orange Studio, with a big band and string section. The album is a melting pot of good old fashioned swing favourites, original toe tapping material, and some unexpected arrangements from the new generation of pop standards. The album has been recorded live in the studio with a 25 piece jazz orchestra made up of some of the finest players from around New Zealand and will be featured in a live big band performance as part of the Christchurch International Big Band Festival. For details of the Christchurch Big Band Festival, visit www.bigbandfest.org.nz Anna's performance at the Festival is on Monday 22nd October, 7.30pm at the Aurora Centre for the Performing Arts, Cnr Greers Rd and Memorial Ave, Burnside.
